Durango Freestyle Team Overview

The Durango Freestyle Team offers children an introduction to mogul skiing, freeriding, Terrain Park and aerial training. The team also offers a chance to compete on a local, regional and national USSA freestyle level. The purposes of these programs are to develop these skills in a fun environment. All teams listed below require an appropriate USSA license. Durango Freestyle Team packages include:

Development "C" Team $475 for 14 training sessions

Affectionately known as "Devos", this freestyle introductory program is designed for the intermediate/advanced skier under the age of thirteen. Skiers must be able to ski blue/black mogul runs. Focus will include basic mogul skiing techniques and introductory aerial training. Includes introduction to competition in the Southwest Freestyle Tour. Additional fees will be travel, lift tickets and lodging to Telluride events and entry fees. December 12-March 14

"B" Team$750

Open to all ages, this program will focus on advanced mogul skiing, aerial, free ride cross training and competition techniques. This team will train with Park & Pipe at least one day a week if they choose too or will do mogul training if desired. Additional training sessions are designed for children who want to spend more time on the snow and with more of an appetite for competition. Focus will be on Southwest Freestyle Tour events and the Rocky Mountain Devo Championships. For children over the age of thirteen, there will be an opportunity to participate at selected Rocky Mountain divisional events. Participation in the travel squad is required for athletes participating at away events. Tuition costs include one holiday camp. Additional fees will include travel, lodging and lift tickets at away events and entry fees. Holiday camp is free to "B" team members and cannot be deducted from tuition cost. Chapman Hill training is included in the tuition fee. Schedule will be all day Saturday, half day Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at Chapman Hill. Tuition does not include dry land/gymnastics# training. December 5- March 22

Park & Pipe$750

The Park & Pipe program encompasses all of the terrain park disciplines including slopestyle and half-pipe. An emphasis is placed on jumping and safety as athletes learn to use the terrain park.

Focus will be on Southwest Freestyle Tour events and the Rocky Mountain Devo Championships. For children over the age of thirteen, there will be an opportunity to participate at selected Rocky Mountain divisional events. Participation in the travel squad is required for athletes participating at away events. Tuition costs include one holiday camp. Additional fees will include travel, lodging and lift tickets at away events and entry fees. Holiday camp is free to park & Pipe team members and cannot be deducted from tuition cost. Chapman Hill training is included in the tuition fee. Schedule will be all day Saturday, half day Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at Chapman Hill. Tuition does not include dry land/gymnastics training. December 5-March 22

Team Demon$475 for 14 training sessions

This program is designed for the advanced skier over the age of thirteen. Focus will include all mountain skiing, mogul skiing and aerial techniques. This team is geared toward the young adult interested in participating on the team with less emphasis on competition. These skiers become accomplished within a more recreational and social atmosphere. December 12-March 21

Team Purg-Freestyle Competition USSA Team $1,200 (minimum 5 athletes required)

This training program is designed for the serious athlete interested in competing full time at a regional and national USSA competition level. Focus will include expert mogul skiing and aerial techniques and overall presentation for competition moguls. Participants will compete at USSA divisional races. Qualified skiers will acquire points for USSA Junior Nationals and USSA Nationals. These athletes will learn to compete at a world class level. Includes coaches travel costs for three away events, one home event and all camps. Additional away events will require a per event travel squad fee (see below) based on the number of athletes and the number of events. Additional fees include individual travel, lodging, food and lift tickets. Camps, dry land/gymnastics and Chapman Hill training are included for Team Purg members and cannot be deducted from tuition costs. October 13-March 22

In addition to the core training programs listed above, many individuals may add additional programs to customize training programs. The following are additional activities for athletes:

Holiday and Spring Campscosts are $100.

The purpose is to add three additional training days for children who will be in Durango for the holidays. Many people add this camp to the Development or Team Demon package.

Dry Land Training/Gymnastics TBD

Dry land training will take place in mid-October through late November. A blend of gymnastics, core strengthening and dry land training is available.

Chapman Hill- $100 for one night per week $200 for two nights per week

For those seeking additional mid week training, Chapman Hill programs are an ideal addition. Chapman Hill is included in "B" team and Team Purg training programs. Athletes are required to purchase a Chapman Hill season pass.

Travel Squad

The ski team travel squad is for athletes who want to participate in additional competitions held away from Purgatory. Usual costs range from $50 to $150 per athlete per event, depending on the number of athletes attending. These fees cover coaching costs for travel, lodging and food per diem. These fees will vary based on fund raising and Durango Winter Sports Foundation funding. The goal is to seek sponsorship support or foundation funding to subsidize the travel costs for each team. If those goals are not met travel fees will be assessed.

USSA License

All athletes on all teams are required to hold a current USSA youth or competitor license. The Purgatory Ski Team club insurance is through USSA. USSA is the United States Ski Association and is the governing body of the U.S. Ski team. Athletes under the age of thirteen will need to apply for a Rocky Mountain Division Freestyle youth license and athletes over the age of thirteen will require a Rocky Mountain Division Freestyle Competitor license.
