GS on Upper Hades Saturday/Sunday with Heikki.

The Southern Series Championships will be held March 22-24 at DMR.  There is temporary registration available for the weekend that will cost $25.00. I will have information regarding the temp registration soon. The GS will be on Friday March 22 on Upper Hades, SL on Saturday on Pando and the dual event on Paradise on March 24.  Registration fee is $55.00 for two race days and includes t-shirt and ice cream social after Awards Ceremony Saturday night.  Checks made to PST and PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL WITH DESIRE TO RACE ASAP!!

LAST WEEK OF TOWN SERIES WEDNESDAY NIGHT: FREE PIZZA AFTER THE RACE AT JBO”S!! WE WILL START RACING AT 5 PM.

We will try to train long SL on Saturday and the race department Pro Race is on Sunday.  The details are as follows:

Pro Race Age Classes:

12 and under, 13-19, Open

$20 kids(5-19): $40 Adults(20+)

Registration will be Sunday morning

Qualifying at NASTAR will begin first thing in the morning, on Sunday.

On Friday Ivan has volunteered to set for the kids to practice some SL, we will also be skiing SL on Saturday. There is a Purg Cup SL on Sunday help by the race department.  This will be full length and we will be able to train all day.  Bring your SL gear and $10 to register for the race.  Race registration will be in Hoody’s.

Wish our U14′s GOOD LUCK at Prater Cup in Crested Butte!!

Registration 4:30 Chapman House Race start 5:30.

We will run for 4 weeks, JBO’s hosting beer specials and pizza buffet after the race.

Teams of at least 4, max 6. $50 adult, $25 youth.

It has been very wet in Red River and is supposed to get very cold this week, that mean ICE, please make sure all skis are tuned and ready to go for the weekend.  Ivan & Heikki will have a Team Meeting at the Best Western at 8 PM on Friday night.  If you can’t be there, please make sure to get with them to make sure you are aware of the plan for Saturday morning.

Not sure of Chapman status for this week in terms of snow.  However, we are planning slalom ALL week.  We’ll just play it by ear. See you there!!

Chapman Hill training is great!!  The Town Race series will start on February 6th, registration at 5PM.  If you wish to preregister a team, please send Leah an email with names,ages, gender and email address.  $300 per adult team, $150 youth team.  Will have a Pizza buffet at JBos after each race to reveal results.

If you haven’t gotten registrations in for Red River please get them in ASAP.  Also iff you are headed there on Friday and can help with setup- we need lots of help!!

The Chapman Hill Freeride Series will consist of five different freeride events taking place in the heart of Durango starting Wednesday, January 16.  The series brings the freeride community, both skiers and snowboarders, together under the lights at Chapman Hill in celebrating a shared passion for snow riding.  Local area athletes have an opportunity to participate in weekly fun events while testing the waters in freeride competition.  The series will take place every Wednesday night through February 13.
“Chapman Hill is the perfect arena, and a great place for kids to come and play”, said Tim Kuss, Chapman Hill Ski Area manager.   “The unique venue of Chapman Hill offers a great opportunity for any local kid to participate.”
The Chapman Hill Freeride Series will be organized by the Purgatory Freestyle and Snowboard Teams in conjunction with the City of Durango Parks and Recreation department. The teams are supported by the Durango Winter Sports Foundation (DWSF) which has worked with the city to promote the Chapman Hill winter sports facilities and opportunities in the Durango area.  The City of Durango has made a significant investment in Chapman Hill by installing snowmaking and providing a winch cat for grooming and terrain park development.  Skier visits have increased substantially with the improvements to the hill.
Zia Taqueria, Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours, Shaw Solar, 2nd Avenue Sports, JBO’s and Alpine Bank each sponsored additional boxes and rails for the upcoming year.  There have been improvements to the existing terrain and the rope tow line for a much more “user friendly” ride.  “By engaging and working with volunteers and local area sponsors, the Chapman Hill Freeride Series will expand the opportunity for local kids to do great things,” said Jamie Wienk DWSF Marketing and Development Director
Registration for the first event rail jam will be at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Chapman House at the base of the hill.  Entry fee is $15 which includes a lift ticket or $10 for Chapman Hill season pass holders.  Riders age 12 and under will compete from 4:30 – 6 p.m. with riders age 13 and over competing after 6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to different age classes.  For more information log on to purgatoryskiteam.org
